Lee Lucas Prog rock meets Trip Hop with this new offering from Midgely & Silentio and it's a combination that works extremely well. It even contains a potential hit song with "Sometimes" in particular. The haunting dark side does even get to shine some light and once again the subject source for the albums concept is well apt to the GREAT! music you get here. It's an album that creates a much bigger picture even with its many short tracks that make it up and I do hope there is more to come from this duo. Favorite track: Sometimes.

thePiecan Edgy neo noir, yet most uplifting atmospheric album from Joan & Gordon. Conjuring their inner 'Ghost Dogs' on this 'Eraser Head' meets 'The Machinist' urban (for me) drift. Beautiful vocals weaving the koans of language with doom drone, static & theremin 'patch'work of synth, with wonderful fx'd guitar, smokin' solos and hypnotic groove bass! Hats off to the geet' solo in 'Sometimes' and the beautiful vocals in 'Fountain'! Favorite track: Fountain.

Darren Douglas Danahy It was an unusually foggy day when I first played SUBJECTS driving through the mountains. I couldn't imagine better setting for this album.

Dissonant strains of guitar passages and mono synth drift through this environment of heavy beats, analog delays, electric pianos, and tape saturation almost palpable as the fog outside, setting the stage for the trebly, passionate vocals by Joan that cut through the mix.

This album sets a mood perfectly, then delivers exactly what the mood needs.

Favorite track: Worlds Are Forming.

Dirk Radloff Like Meister Eckhardt, who is known for his controversial and unconventional sentences, Mr. Midgley and Mrs. Silentio span a wide range of different styles here. While many tracks follow a modern concept of textural composing and layering, often dissonant and daring, integrating the ethereal vocals as another instrument, some other tracks present a most beautiful melodic strength and classic songwriting. My personal favourites are the Reverse-madness of "Nothing of our own", which reminds on the works of David Torn, the Trip-Hop hit "Worlds are forming" and the beauty of "In my heart". Favorite track: In My Heart.

Scott Evans Possibly my fave album of the year. Glorious production, catchy rhythms and beautiful vocals delivered in whispers. Much depth to explore on repeated listens.
Warning: may cause huge distraction from work 😀

about

Gordon writes :

Twelve eventful months have passed since the release of 'Lifetimes Ago' and on several occasions I've found myself traversing the 'timeline' to construct a musical travelogue between 'there' and 'here'.
Reflective convergence. Sometimes.

I first encountered the writings of medieval mystic Meister Johannes Eckhart in the early 2000s, finding them interesting in their historical context. Returning to Eckhart last winter I experienced a different kind of acknowledgement and resonance.

I'd discussed his writings with Joan on previous occasions and wondered if she'd be keen to join the nascent project.
You can imagine how delighted I was when she said yes with characteristic enthusiasm.
We bounced ideas around for inspirational excerpts and before too long we had a well-defined concept for an album.
A musical world was forming.

Related musical and lyrical motifs are presented in different contexts at various stages of the journey.

We often discover the answer was in front of us all along but we require a lengthy journey of experience to be able to recognise it.
